Founded in 1998, Sam Hill Tree Care is a full service expert tree and landscape health care company serving the Dallas Fort Worth region. Our team consists of trained arborists that adhere to International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) guidelines and are committed to OSHA safety standards. Our founder, Sam Hill is a Board Certiﬁed Master Arborist through the ISA, as well as a respected educator and frequent guest speaker at association and industry events. Tree care services include, but are not limited to pruning, removals, stump grinding, and hedge pruning. Our Plant Health Care division also focuses on tree preventive health measures such as pest and disease solutions, soil testing and tree planting. Our holistic consulting services include house-calls, tree protection plans, tree inventory and management planning as well as hazardous tree evaluations.
Sam Hill is the president and founder of Sam Hill Tree Care. Establishing the company in 1998, after working with firms such as Lambert’s and Precision Landscaping, Sam has made it his mission to provide quality tree care in the Dallas area. He plays an active role in all facets of the company, with primary focus as chief consultant and diagnostician.
Following his belief of leaving the world better than he found it, Sam has instilled a culture of continuous learning and safety within his organization. He has a passion for plant science and pathology and this passion is emulated throughout his team of Arborists, Plant Healthcare Technicians and production crews. Sam invests heavily in training and safety programs to ensure the most qualified tree professionals are providing tree care to his customers.
Mr. Hill is a Board Certified Master Arborist® through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and is also a current member of the organization. He is Texas Oak Wilt Qualified, a TDA Commercial Pesticide Applicator and is Tree Risk Assessment Qualified. Beginning his education at Texas A&M to pursue his degree in Chemistry, Sam graduated from Le Tourneau University with a BBA in Business Administration. He received a Certificate in Leadership from Southern Methodist University, and has recently completed the Aileron Course for Presidents. Sam Hill is highly regarded by his peers and educators nationwide.
Sam and his wife Johnna are the proud parents of two teenagers, Ryan and Abby. He is also active in his church and community through many volunteer efforts with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. When not reading, or studying plant science and plant pathology, Sam enjoys photography and honing his skills behind the camera.
Director of Operations
Ronny Nelson joined Sam Hill Tree Care in 2016 with over 19 years of experience in the industry, having worked with professional firms such as Fannin Tree Farm and Southern Botanical. He is a respected ISA Certified Arborist and an ASCA Consulting Arborist and recent graduate from the ASCA Consulting Academy. Ronny is Texas Oak Wilt Qualified, Licensed Landscape Irrigator, Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor, TDA Commercial Pesticide Applicator and is Tree Risk Assessment Qualified. He graduated with a B.S. in Agronomy and Horticulture from Stephen F. Austin State University.
As Director of Operations, Ronny is responsible for leading operations and the management and training aspects for our team of Arborists, Plant Healthcare Technicians, Crew Leads and production crews within the company. He is tasked with developing and executing standard operating procedures to improve efficiencies, minimize service backlog and increase customer satisfaction and retention. Ronny loves to study soils, plant science, entomology and plant pathology and is passionate about driving a culture of continuous learning and safety within our team. He ensures that our teams are actively engaged in ongoing safety and training initiatives provided.
Ronny and his wife Lindsey have two children, Ellie Kate and Easton Thomas. Their family is actively involved at Prestonwood Baptist Church. In his down time, Ronny is an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoys riding motorcycles and dirt bikes.
Director of Administration
Since 2008, Betty has been leading the Accounting and Human Resources efforts for the company. With over 30 years of Human Resources and Accounting experience with large dairy operations such as Morningstar and Dean Foods, Betty brings a depth of payroll expertise, a strong accounting background, and sound compliance and safety practices to our team. She has established and refined our front office procedures for customer support, billing and accounting, implemented new client database system, as well as developed and administers our payroll and benefits plans for our team members.
Betty earned her Certificate in Human Resources from Texas A& M, Commerce. Throughout her career, Betty has been active in SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) and has invested in continuous training and certification curriculum to stay ahead of dynamic changes in the workplace. While at Morningstar, Betty became OSHA 501 Train the Trainer Certified, which has proven invaluable knowledge in support of the development of our safety standards.
When not in the office, Betty loves retreating to her home in Sulphur Springs where she enjoys the pace of the small town including spending time with family, fishing, and church activities.
Arborist and Safety Manager
Andrew has been a member of the Sam Hill Tree Care team for 6 months, after relocating to Dallas from Missouri. He is a recent graduate of the Ozarks Technical Community College, with an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Turf and Landscape Management. Andrew worked as a nursery sales specialist for Lowe’s while pursuing his degree. He also served proudly in the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant.
Andrew is an ISA Certified Arborist. As the Safety Manager for Sam Hill Tree Care, he is responsible for leading crew and equipment safety and quality compliance processes per ANSI Z133 standards. He’s a firm believer in going to bed tired but satisfied every day, knowing that he’s given 100% in all endeavors.
Andrew and his wife Sara are the proud new parents of their daughter, Anna. Andrew enjoys adventure, whether hiking or camping or enjoying his favorite hobby of precision marksmanship. Andrew aspires to leaving a legacy of servant leadership.
